Ras Abu Soma
Ras Abu Soma is a renowned dive site located at the northern tip of Safaga Bay, near Soma Bay, Egypt. This site offers a diverse underwater landscape suitable for divers of various experience levels.
Ras Abu Soma is a nice place close to Soma Bay. A slowly dropping reef with vertically sloping reef edge (15m) merging to sandy plateau (25m). On the plateau you can always meet a lot of sting rays and moray eels. More to the north you can find the drop off were some times eagle rays are flying. And if you are lucky may be something bigger is passing by.
Dive Site Overview
✔️ Location: Approximately 45 minutes by boat from Shams Safaga Diving Center, situated at the northern end of Safaga Bay.
✔️ Dive Types: Suitable for shore dives, boat dives, snorkeling, and drift dives.
✔️ Depth Range: From shallow areas around 5 meters to deeper sections reaching up to 40 meters.
✔️ Visibility: Typically excellent, ranging between 10 to 30 meters.
✔️ Currents: Generally mild, making it favorable for relaxed diving experiences.
Underwater Topography
The reef at Ras Abu Soma gently slopes from the shore into deeper waters, featuring a sandy plateau adorned with coral blocks. At approximately 25 meters depth, divers encounter a plateau rich in table and hard corals. Further south lies the “Ras Abu Soma Garden,” a vibrant coral garden teeming with marine life. A notable feature is a small cave at around 35 meters depth, often inhabited by glassfish and surrounded by giant sea fans.
