Abu Kafan
Abu Kafan, meaning “Father of the Deep,” is a renowned dive site located off the coast of Safaga in Egypt’s Red Sea. This elongated, narrow reef stretches approximately 300 meters in a north-south direction and is celebrated for its dramatic underwater topography and rich marine biodiversity

Depth Range: The reef’s top lies at about 3 meters, with plateaus extending between 10 to 30 meters. Beyond these, the walls plunge steeply into depths exceeding 100 meters, reaching down to around 400 meters in some areas.

Currents: As an outer reef, Abu Kafan is exposed to medium to strong currents, particularly on its northern and northeastern sides. These currents contribute to the site’s vibrant marine life but also make it more suitable for experienced divers.

Visibility: Typically excellent, ranging from 20 to 40 meters, allowing divers clear views of the reef’s features and inhabitants.

Access: The site is accessible only by boat, with a travel time of approximately 80 to 90 minutes from Shams Safaga Diving Centrum
